The Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent Wegscheid of Wadena, will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 6, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton with Father Aaron Kuhn as celebrant. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at St. Ann’s Parish Hall in Wadena with Parish Prayers at 6:00 PM and Knights of Columbus rosary service at 7:00 PM. Surrounded by his family, Vince passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. He was 82 years old.

Vincent Frank Wegscheid was born to Alphonse and Theresa (Langer) Wegscheid on January 26, 1934, in Bluffton Township, Otter Tail County, MN. He attended St. John the Baptist Parochial School in Bluffton before graduating from Wadena High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1954 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and served in the Signal Corps until his honorable discharge in 1956 at Fort Bliss, TX.

Vince returned to the Wadena area and was united in marriage with Vera Ann Walz on June 3, 1958, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton. They moved to a farm in 1969, where he and Vera raised six children. Vince took great pride in his wife and their family. He loved living on the farm and making it a wonderful home for them. He spent many hours fixing things for his family and ensuring their happiness.

Vince was community-minded and was involved as a Wadena School Board member, Bluffton Lion, 4-H Volunteer, President of DeLaval Dairy Division Honor Council, and Wadena Township Treasurer. He was a member of the Wadena Chamber of Commerce and Knights of Columbus, where he served as a Grand Knight. At St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena, Vince served as an usher, lector, Eucharistic Minister, and chairperson of the Parish Council. He found his livelihood as a business owner in sales and service, and in later years as a patient escort at Tri-County Healthcare in Wadena.

Vince was preceded in death by his wife Vera on February 6, 2009; parents Alphonse and Theresa; daughter Patricia Wegscheid; brothers Marvin and Jerome Wegscheid; sister Delores Sazama; sister-in-law Mary Wegscheid; and grandson Adam Rumpca.

He is survived by his children Julie (William Lipkin) Wegscheid of St. Paul, Nancy (Jim) Berg of Moorhead, Susan (James) Rumpca of Ramsey, Brenda (John) Fischer of Elbow Lake, Beth (Matthew) Gaetz of Minneapolis, and Brian Wegscheid of Kindred, ND; 14 grandchildren; brother Robert (Barb) Wegscheid of Mankato; sister-in-law Nellie Wegscheid; brother-in-law Ted Sazama; along with a host of relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Rumpca, Miah Berg, Sarah Lipkin, and Annaliese Gaetz.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Berg, Zachary Fischer, Ryan Rumpca, Alex Berg, Noah Fischer, Caden Fischer, and Drew Fischer.

Military honors will be provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wadena, MN.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Wadena, MN.

Vera Wegscheid was born on January 12, 1938 to Anthony and Mabel (Hochstein) Walz in Bluffton, Minnesota. She passed away, surrounded by her famil,y at her home in Wadena, on February 6, 2009, at the age of 71 years.

Vera was united in marriage to Vincent F. Wegscheid on June 3, 1958 in Bluffton. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, music, family, playing piano, baking, and cooking. She loved to nourish family and friends with food and laughter. The community will remember Vera as one of the friendly tellers at First National Bank and working in the clerical department at the Wadena Medical Center. She also gave of her time to Christian Mothers, Bluffton Lions, and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Fair Oaks Lodge.

Vera’s love of people was evident by the number of people who considered her their second mom. She especially loved children and was happiest when surrounded by her family. Vera also had a deep love for all living things, people, animals, Mother Earth, and plants. She nurtured all of these with great love and affection.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Anthony; mother and father-in-law, Theresa and Alphonse Wegscheid; daughter, Patricia Ann; and brothers, Lawrence and Donald Walz. She is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Vince; son, Brian of Wadena; daughters, Julie (Bill) Wegscheid of St. Paul, Nancy (Jim) Berg of Moorhead, Susan (James) Rumpa of Ramsey, Brenda (John) Fischer of Elbow Lake, and Beth Wegscheid of St. Joseph; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Ben, Daniel, Aron, Sarah, Joshua, Alex, Miah, Amanda, Ryan, Zachary, Noah, Caden, and Drew; brothers, Gerald (Judie) Walz of Henderson, and LeRoy Walz of Spanaway, WA; and sisters, Jeanette (Robert) Scheidecker of Moorhead, Diane Lord of St. Louis Park, and Karen Bogott of Phoenix, OR.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena, with Father Donald Wagner as celebrant. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Wadena. Honorary pallbearers were Rita Landwehr and Jeanette Baymler. Active pallbearers were Mark Sazama, Ryan Rumpa, Rob Wegscheid, Zach Fischer, Josh Berg, Alex Berg, and Randy Scheidecker.
