Obituary notes for Joyce M. Koplin
Joyce M. Wegscheid, age 59, of Ottertail, Minn., died peacefully at her home after a courageous seven-year battle with multiple myeloma. Funeral services were held Monday, August 5, 2002, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rush Lake, rural Perham, with Reverend Jerry Nordick and Reverend Leo Otto officiating.

Joyce was born on September 16, 1942, to Art and Adeline (Kempf) Koplin, in Otto Township, Ottertail County, Minn. She was baptized on October 11, 1942, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ottertail, Minn. She was also confirmed at St. John’s on March 25, 1956. Joyce was united in marriage to LeRoy Wegscheid on June 10, 1963. This union was blessed with three children. LeRoy and Joyce lived for a short period of time in the Perham area as well as Hastings, Minn.; they moved back to the area where they lived near Ottertail for over thirty years.

Joyce worked at Tuffy’s Pet Foods in Perham from 1973 to 1995 when she was forced to leave her job due to her illness. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting and watching hummingbirds from her front picture window. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and putting picture puzzles together in the winter months. Joyce loved spending time with her four grandchildren. She was also very honored in 2001 when she and her husband were honorary co-chairs for the Relay for Life in Perham.

Surviving Joyce is her husband of 39 years, LeRoy of Ottertail, Minn.; one son, Mitchell and special friend, Peggy Ferguson of Hudson, Wisc.; two daughters, Shelly (Dan) Dreyer of Ottertail, Minn. and Kim Wegscheid and special friend, Michael Jacques of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren, Staci, Eric, Brady and Tasha; two brothers, Gustuv (Sonny) Koplin and Bill Koplin; two sisters, LaVon (George) Czech and Lois (Jack) Ash, many in-laws, nephews, and nieces who loved her very much.

Preceding Joyce in death are her parents; two sisters, Arlene Denning and Betty Menze; one brother, Verlin Koplin and one great-niece, Jenna Denning.

Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is in charge of the arrangements.

LeRoy John Wegscheid was born on May 24, 1942 to Alois and Clara (Langer) Wegscheid in Bluffton, Minnesota. He attended Perham High School in Perham, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1960.
On June 10, 1963 LeRoy was united in marriage to Joyce Koplin at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Perham, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children: Mitch, Shelly and Kim. Together, they made their home in Perham. LeRoy was employed with Hammer Construction, Trites Turkey, and Worked as a Lineman for Lake Region Electrical from 1974 until retiring in 2001. Joyce passed away on August 1, 2002.
LeRoy was united in marriage to Ruth Wokasch-Cole on July 16, 2004 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Otto Township, rural Perham, Minnesota. They made their home in Ottertail, Minnesota.
In October of 2006 LeRoy was the proud recipient of a successful heart transplant. He was fortunate to meet his heart donor family and they have become fast friends. LeRoy gave countless hours of his time to the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life as a Captain of the St. Lawrence Saints. He was also a Chair for the Survivors Committee for the Leadership Team for the Relay.
LeRoy enjoyed oil painting, going ice fishing, deer hunting and bowling. He loved vintage cars and doing anything out doors- even mowing the lawn. 
On May 8, 2020 LeRoy passed away at 77 years of age at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding LeRoy in death is his first wife: Joyce; parents; and sisters: Virginia and Betty.
Surviving LeRoy is his wife: Ruth; son: Mitch (Peggy) Wegscheid; daughters: Shelly (Dan) Dreyer; and Kim (Mike) Jacques; 4 grandchildren: Staci (Adam Larson) Dreyer; Brady Wegscheid; Eric (Brenna Zepper) Dreyer; and Tasha (James Ruben) Wegscheid; sisters: Evelyn (Nestor) Vorderbruggen; Dorothy (Dave) Adams;  and Donna Wegscheid; brothers: Erv Wegscheid; Dave (Rita) Wegscheid; Tom (Georgette) Wegscheid; and Richard (Brenda) Wegscheid; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
